Ovarian PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy

What is ovarian PRP?

Ovarian PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is an emerging fertility treatment now available to patients of MCRM Fertility.  It involves injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP), derived from your own blood, into the ovaries to potentially rejuvenate ovarian function. The goal is to enhance egg quality and/or increase the number of available eggs in individuals with diminished ovarian reserve or other fertility challenges.

Who Might Benefit from Ovarian PRP?

  • Ovarian PRP may be considered for:
  • Women with low ovarian reserve (low AMH, high FSH)
  • Women with poor response to ovarian stimulation
  • Women approaching or in early menopause
  • Women seeking natural conception or improved IVF outcomes

How Does Ovarian PRP Work?

Platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that may stimulate ovarian tissue and support:

  • Follicle development
  • Improved egg quality
  • Enhanced hormonal activity (e.g., estrogen production)

Procedure Overview

Time required: About 1-2 hours (including PRP preparation, PRP administration and recovery)

  • PRP Preparation
    • A small sample of your blood is drawn
    • The blood is processed using a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and growth factors.
  • PRP Administration
    • The PRP is injected into your ovaries under ultrasound guidance, usually via a transvaginal procedure.
    • Light sedation or local anesthesia may be used.
  • Recovery
    • Usually minimal; most patients return to normal activities within 24 hours.

Expected Outcomes

Some women who have utilized ovarian PRP have experienced:

  • Better IVF response
  • Improved hormone levels
  • Resumed menstrual cycles

It should be noted, not all patients experience benefits and success is not guaranteed.
