Sunscreen and its possible effects on Infertility

Suncreen and its effect on infertility

recent studies, it’s the chemicals found in sunscreen that can contribute to this finding. Danish researchers who studied the UV filters contained in various sunscreens have found that even small amounts of UV filters have adverse effects on male fertility. The scientists from the University of Copenhagen reported their findings at the annual conference of the Endocrine Society in Boston. The study looked at 29 of 31 ultraviolet filters allowed in sunscreen in the U.S. and European Union. The results suggest some of the filters having the potential to affect sperm motility.”These results are of concern and might explain in part why unexplained infertility is so prevalent,” said Niels Skakkebaek, a researcher at the Copenhagen University Hospital and the study’s lead investigator. Dr. Peter Ahlering, Medical Director at the MCRM Fertility contributes to this finding… “ It’s well known that compounds that mimic hormonal actions do have deleterious effects on sperm. However, at this point I would not stop using these sunscreen products or perhaps use those products that are more ‘natural’ sunscreens. I think an important thing perhaps is that if people are worried about it, they should get a simple semen analysis done to see if there is any preexisting issue, then perhaps one should be more cautious or take action to address the situation.”]]>
