Recently in Fertility and Sterility, a study was published, “Development of children born from freeze-only versus fresh embryo transfer: follow-up of a randomized controlled trial,” which compared the long term developmental outcomes of children born from a frozen embryo transfer (FET) versus a fresh embryo transfer (ET).
Children in the study were followed beyond two years of age with a mean age of 37 months. The development status was determined used the Developmental Red Flags and Ages & Stages Third Edition (ASQ-3) Questionnaires.
The resulting data is reassuring and indicates there is no difference in the development of children born after a FET versus a ET. Overall, children with abnormal scores for either group were low. However, ASQ-3 scores and fine motor skill scores were both better for the FET group.
