Endometriosis and IVF
Does endometriosis result in a heightened prospect of embryonic aneuploidy? This inquiry was the objective of a retrospective cohort analysis.
Endometriosis affects women during their reproductive years, is a chronic inflammatory condition that is estrogen-dependent and causes pelvic pain and infertility.
Participants in this particular analysis were in an IVF cycle between 2009-2015 who were either surgically diagnosed or had ultrasound findings consistent with endometriosis. Three hundred five patients produced one thousand eight hundred eighty blastocysts that met the benchmark for involvement in the endometriosis group. The average age of the endometriosis patients was 36.1+/- 3.9 years. Once aneuploidy rates were ranked and compared by SART age groups, there was no statistical difference.
Additional findings show that patients with endometriosis that undergo surgery to correct it before IVF did not have an improved outcome over those who did not have surgery beforehand.
