MCRM Fertility and Women’s Health Center will be hosting a special event and you’re invited. This special event, concerning genetic carrier and fertility screening, will be provided at NO OUT OF POCKET COST to the patient. The event will be held at our center, in the Chesterfield Valley at Boones Crossing and I-64/US40, Friday August 15 th (830am-5pm) and Saturday August 16 th(9am-Noon) . We are offering those over the age of 18, men and women, a FREE* blood test for genetic screening and for determining fertility potential.
These simple tests are available at no cost to the individual(s) and are designed to assess the genetic risk for multiple illnesses, such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, fragile X syndrome, hemoglobin diseases and Ashkenazi Jewish disorders that may be transmitted through a family, parents to children. In addition, for females, we have simple blood screening that can be helpful in determining one’s ” Biological Clock Time ” and fertility potential; current status and future fertility. This can be extremely useful to assist in making important current and future reproductive decisions. The results are confidential and come back within a week. These results, once known, can be used to understand one’s risk for having children with these genetic diseases but also identifying if one is at risk for having fertility problems in the first place….
To be sure, these tests do not identify all possible problems with fertility nor are they going to identify all possible genetic issues that can occur in a pregnancy. However, these tests will look at some of the more common disorders that afflict pregnancies. As said, also identifying those females that may be at risk for certain problems that lead to serious difficulties in achieving pregnancy.
The key is knowing these possible problems ahead of time so one can then obtain proper information about their options. This knowledge is very useful and one can learn the available strategies for managing current and future fertility; it can be amazing information.
